FUN FOR KIDS

FUN IN THE KITCHEN — KIDS COOKING FAMILY FAVORITE MEALS (Course #116) NEW

Learn how to create awesome meals that will amaze your family and friends. We’ll review cooking basics so you can make family favorites like meatloaf, cupcakes, chicken wings, pizza, brownies, potato salad, (oven) fried chicken and macaroni and cheese. Be sure to bring an apron, container for leftovers and your appetite! (For safety reasons, please wear sneakers or shoes—NOT sandals or flip-flops.) Instructor: Kay Benaroch.
ADVENTURES IN SPACE (Course #103) NEW

For future space explorers: We are pleased to offer the opportunity to experience a five-day space odyssey. On this journey, you will learn about flying, both in and out of the Earth’s atmosphere and what it’s like to live and work in space. You will also design your own space station, moon base or Mars base. Discover how rockets work from the ground up by building and launching your own model rocket. Come join this very cool and fun summer program! Over the past 18 years, Top Secret Science has worked hands-on with over 1,000,000 local children. Each day the kids will explore up to 20 weird and wacky hands-on science experiments and will make and take home at least eight different projects. The scientists are fast paced and funny and your kids will be thoroughly entertained (they’ll even learn some interesting things, too). We will explore weird motions and flying things, air and water pressure; crazy chemistry, light and sound, science magic, electricity, magnets, astronomy and more. Be prepared for lots of fun stuff. ART STUDIO 7–11 (Course #108)

Come have fun and begin to learn the basics of drawing. We will explore form and shading and apply this learning to create more realistic and three-dimensional landscapes. Still life drawing requires careful observation of inanimate objects; it is up to the artist to draw life into the subject! Take on this challenge and enjoy the process with us. We may even have time to add a little color to our art with paint! Instructor: Richard Marion.
CHARCOAL & PASTEL ART STUDIO (Course #110)

Students will use the still life model constructed by the instructor as a subject. Drawing techniques in outline, contour, shading, blending and detailing are taught. CHEMICAL MAGIC (Course #111) – NEW

Learn to make batteries from fruits or potatoes. Make a fantastic crystal tree. Work with invisible ink. See the happy and sad balls. Work with our powerful magnets. Look at our prepared slides using our microscopes. Learn about the different types of rocks and minerals from our interesting rock and mineral collection. Be a chemical detective. Make glob from glue. Use paper chromatography to separate colors. Make dirty pennies turn clean and clean pennies turn green. Everything will be explained to you so you can go home having learned some interesting science. Hands-on science is the best way to learn. Do it the Sciensational way! DUCT TAPE DESIGNS (Course #114) – NEW

In this course students will create fun duct tape accessories including flower pens, bracelets, wallets and more! Who knew duct tape could be so cool? FINE ARTS FOR KIDS (Course #115)

In this fine arts program, students will explore different acrylic painting techniques on canvas. Students will be working on various size canvas panels as well as framed canvas. Out of the four projects you will create a 16 x 20 canvas! All the material will be provided by the instructor who will collect a $25 material fee at the first class. Students should bring an old t-shirt to protect clothing. Please bring drink/snack for break. Instructor: Gopika Luthra.
HOME ALONE (Course #117)

Does your child know what to do in an emergency or if a stranger comes to the door? The Home Alone Program is designed to teach children simple rules and procedures for responsible self-care. LEGO ™ ROBOTICS (Course #119)

The Lego™ Mindstorms program takes kids to the next level of designing and building robots to meet a variety of fun challenges and tasks. The Mindstorms programs are written on computers and then downloaded to the free-roaming robots. Programmers can change the robot’s behavior using environmental stimuli such as sound and light sensors, and these robots can incorporate up to three motors. In our program we emphasize problem-solving, process, group work and fun in a relaxed atmosphere as kids compete in low-stakes trials to develop a superior automaton. Please bring a snack and drink. ROBOTIC ARM SCIENCE (Course #124) – NEW

Learn the science of robotics as you have fun building, commanding and taking home your own five-motor arm! With your Robotic Arm you can command your gripper to open and close, move your robotic wrist, elbow, base and command vertical and horizontal reaching moves. Your robot will be equipped with 100 grams of lifting capacity. Additional features include a search light on the gripper for night operation. With your Robotic Arm you will have total command and visual manipulation using the five switch wired controller. Plus, have fun building a wide range of additional robotic designs with the robotic building system. Participate in our robot Olympic-style challenges, robot battles and more! POTTERY PLUS (Course #122)

One week of pure fun with paints. We will paint four pieces of ready-made pottery along with one canvas painting. Class will consist of projects that will be easy and fun for the kids to do. We will teach step by step directions with several different methods of painting. Any pieces that are not returned during the class schedule will be dropped off at a designated spot to be determined by the Community Education Office one week after the class ends. Come join in the fun! Kids will do hands on cool stuff and learn to work as a team as well. This is science and fun with a positive influence and outlook. Does your child have endless energy and love doing flips, cartwheels and making new friends? Then beginner/intermediate tumbling is a great place to be. We will be doing tumbling and group skills used in cheerleading and playing games. It is a great way to improve tumbling skills, while having fun. High school assistant may be present depending on enrollment. Instructor: Eileen DiRienzo.
FIELD PLAY (Course #128)

Your child will enjoy outdoor field games and events including races, jumping, throwing and much more! This is a low competitive atmosphere where children are introduced to track & field skills and get the opportunity to run and play games. This is a large boisterous gathering: an adult is requested to stay and watch the fun! Ribbons will be distributed to all participants each evening. All participants who pre-register by June 12th are guaranteed a t-shirt opening night. T-shirts will be available at the CommEd office July 8–10 from 7 AM–2 PM. Please pick them up early if possible to help eliminate the long lines on our first evening. T-shirts will also be distributed on the first night of the program. Our Multi-Sport program is designed to introduce young athletes to a variety of different sports in one setting. For this program we combine two or three sports into one fun-filled week. Athletes will learn the rules and essentials of each sport through skill-based games and scrimmages. By the end of the week, your child will walk away with knowledge of two or three new sports along with vital life lessons such as respect, teamwork and self-discipline. Instructor: Skyhawks Staff.
Sky Hawks — GOLF: SNAG (Starting New At Golf) (Course #137) – NEW

One of our most popular programs, Skyhawks Golf focuses on building the confidence of young athletes through proper technique and refining the essential skills of the game. As we know, golf is a challenging and lifelong sport, so young athletes need proper focus on the fundamentals of form, swinging, putting and body positioning. To assist in this training, Skyhawks has adopted the SNAG (Starting New At Golf) system to its curriculum. Developed by PGA professionals, SNAG is specifically designed for the entry-level player; SNAG simplifies instruction so that young players can make an easy and effective transition onto the golf course. No need to bring your own clubs, all equipment is provided. For safety reasons we utilize special helmets for all participants and keep the instructor to child ratio for this program very low. As a result these programs fill up quickly. Instructor: Skyhawks Staff.

Lacrosse combines basic skills used in soccer, basketball and hockey into one fast-paced game. Athletes will learn the fundamentals of stick handling, cradling, passing and shooting in a fun, non-checking environment. All participants receive a t-shirt and a merit award. Participants should bring appropriate clothing, a snack, a water bottle, running shoes and sunscreen. Mouth guards are recommended. Instructor: Skyhawks Staff.
YOUTH TENNIS (Course #129)

Tennis Tots
This group is designed to introduce younger children to the game of tennis. Players will develop hand-eye coordination, racket skills, fundamental ground strokes, volleys, serves and knowledge of court boundaries, all within fun group interaction games.
The Aces
For children who are ready to learn and develop the basic fundamentals of forehands, backhands, serves and volleys. Classes will consist of basic drills and skill focused games. Players at the higher level spectrum will develop skill in rallying control and point play.
The Challengers
