Welcome to the Chelmsford Extended Day Summerfest
2008 Program, the HAPPENING PLACE to be! We're excited about our program
in the Center Elementary School - it's air-conditioned, has a great
playground, sports area, computer lab, and lots more!!! With weeks
carefully designed by our professional staff around popular themes
guaranteeing a wide variety of experiences for school-aged children,
your child can fit into the program for the entire summer, just a week
or two, or a special day. Age-appropriate physical, social, intellectual,
and creative activities are planned which allow the children to develop
emotionally and to make choices based on their personal interests.
The
goal of Summerfest 2008 is to provide a safe, happy, and interesting
summer for school-aged children from all communities.
The program will be staffed by certified teachers, educational support
personnel, registered nurses, college and high school students -
the majority of whom cared for the children during our Extended Day
Program.
Located at the Center Elementary School, Summerfest 2008 will provide
recreational and musical activities, arts and crafts, computers,
story time, cookouts, pizza
parties, movies, field trips and always a super surprise or two. Sprinklers
will provide refreshing play on hot days and we'll go to the Radisson
Heritage Hotel
for swimming on most Fridays during July and August. Some of the scheduled
activities are subject to change.
Drinks and snacks will be provided. Pancakes are served
every Tuesday and Thursday
morning before 9:00. Children must bring their own lunch.
Fees are due one week in advance with the first week's
payment required with registration. Thereafter, checks payable to Town
of Chelmsford/CommEd can be
given directly to the Summerfest 2008 staff at the Center School or mailed to
Chelmsford Community Education, 200 Richardson Road, North Chelmsford, MA 01863.
It is important for us to know what days/weeks you are registering your child
to attend our program. We are not a "drop-in" program and we hire our
staff based upon the number of enrollees each week. If your child's schedule
changes, we require notification to the Community Education Office at 978-251-5151
by Wednesday of the preceding week. After that time, you will be responsible
for a $10 charge (per day, per child) for any changes, which include adding or
dropping days.
We look forward to working with your child during the
summer. If you have any questions regarding the program, please call
our office.
Please note that the Community Education Office will
be moving to the Westlands School at 170 Dalton Road sometime this
summer.

Enchanted Spells and Wishing Wells (June 23
- 27) Capes, magic wands and crystal balls will be the focus
at Summerfest this week. This theme is intended to stimulate the
children’s
imagination. During the week the children will perform magical experiments,
create wands and be able to participate in many other magical activities.
An amazing magician is scheduled to “wow” the crowd.
American Dream (June 30 - July 3) Come and celebrate the Fourth of
July with us! Enjoy American summer traditions like baseball, cookouts,
and ice cream. During the week we will put our ideas together and create
a Summerfest Time Capsule. A trip to Jordan's IMAX 3D Theater and Liquid
Fireworks is sure to get us ready to celebrate the Fourth!
Spirit Week (July 7 - 11) Team spirit is the theme of this fun week.
Children will work in groups to create their own friendship bracelets,
name flag and tie-dyed t-shirts. Teams will compete in fun challenges
to earn special treats and rewards. Do you love the game Survivor?
If so, then this week is the week for you. Face painting is sure to
please and fun at Roller Kingdom is planned.
Amazing Amazon Jungle Rumble (July 14 - 18) Do your children love
cute and cuddly animals? How about slimy and scaly ones? This week's
activities will be sure to encourage the children to imitate wild animals.
It will be a true Roar! Southwick Zoo will attempt to please all animal
lovers.
Underwater Ocean Commotion (July 21 - 25) During the heat of the summer
there is nothing better than getting wet and cooling off. This week
we will have the ever popular dunk tank and super wet slide. We will
also utilize sprinklers, water balloons and other fun water activities.
Also planned is a special Sponge Bob Day with activities. We will be
serving his special “crabby-patties" (hamburgers). We'll
join the Manchester Fisher Cats baseball team as they celebrate Splash
Day!
Spirit, Stamina & Success (July 28 - August 1) The focus of this
week is fitness and fun. We will be offering a variety of individual
and team activities to get everyone moving and cheering. Our goal is
to encourage the children to give 100 percent while maintaining a positive
attitude. Our week will feature an Olympic Day and a field trip to
a park for a hike and ice cream.
Time to Shine (August 4 - 8) This is the week for all of the children
to display their talents. During our third annual Summerfest Talent
Show children can perform any talents they wish. We will also be hosting
an Art Gallery for any future Picasso in the group. The children will
also be asked to participate in a Design a Camp Logo Shirt Contest.
Bowling and a trip to Boarding House Park are on our agenda.
Hip Hop, Rap & Rock (August 11 - 15) This is the week for all
children who love music and/or dancing. We will have a guest dance
instructor come to teach us some dance moves. We will also explore
different music by offering a live concert. Our gym will be turned
into a karaoke café for any aspiring pop stars.
Celebrate Good Times (August 18 - 22) Time for one last summer party.
This week we will hold a camp carnival. Children will be able to play
carnival games, have their faces painted and eat some traditional carnival
treats. The children will also create their own memory and autograph
books. A special surprise activity is sure to bring an end to the perfect
summer.
