The fun continues in our childcare program over the summer! We're excited about our program in the Center Elementary School - it's air-conditioned (most of the time!!), has a great playground, sports area, computer lab, and lots more!!!
With weeks carefully designed by our professional staff around popular themes guaranteeing a wide variety of experiences for children entering 1st grade through 6th grade, your child can fit into the program for the entire summer, just a week or two, or a special day. Age-appropriate physical, social, intellectual, and creative activities are planned which allow the children to develop emotionally and to make choices based on their personal interests.
Have you ever said to yourself, "Kids these days don't know how to use their imagination?" This summer we are creating a program that will allow the children to explore, create and imagine! We hope you and your family join us as we let our minds carry us away!
Imagine If You Were On A Game Show (June 27 & 28) Let's start off our summer with some fun and silly games. During our kick-off week the kids will get the chance to compete in individual and team games. We will also be visited by a popular Double Dutch hopscotch team who will inspire us with their expert skills and teach us some of their techniques.
Imagine If You Were A Famous Artist (July 1 - 3) This will be a week of exploring forms of artistic expression. We will be creating indoor and outdoor art pieces. Our specialist will be bringing each child a clay figurine that they can paint and take home.
Imagine If You Could Explore The Wild (July 8 - 12) We will be exploring our outdoor environment this week. Our art projects and activities will celebrate natural beauty. The children will also travel to Chelmsford High School for a field trip where they can master their skills with a compass in the fields and practice their aim while taking tennis lessons on the courts.
Imagine If You Were A Mad Scientist (July 15 - 19) Parents may need to watch out…this will be a week of potions and spells. The children will spend the week participating in hands-on science and we will travel to the EcoTarium in Worcester to further explore scientific secrets.
Imagine If You Were A Famous Athlete (July 22 - 26) Calling athletes of all levels and abilities…the Summerfest team needs YOU! We will travel to Chelmsford High School to compete in the Summerfest Olympics using authentic track and field equipment. We will also be traveling to the Lowell Spinners to cheer on the home team during their day game! Bring your team spirit!
Imagine If You Found Atlantis (July 29 - August 2) Have you ever wondered what the lost underwater city would have been like? We will learn more about this famous legend and celebrate everything about the ocean. We will become seafarers as we journey by ferry to Georges Island in Boston!
Imagine If You Were A Famous Chef (August 5 - 9) This week the children will be designing menus, decorations and preparing food. Our field trip will be to the Chelmsford Community Education Center where the children will serve their families a feast! Bring your appetites!
Imagine If You Could Step Inside A Storybook (August 12 - 16) Have you ever wondered what Harry Potter would have felt like if he was picked for the Slytherin House? Did you ever consider how fun it would be to play with the monsters in Where the Wild Things Are? This week we will celebrate a different book each day. Throughout the day the children will participate in games, create art and take part in other activities that allow them to enter the story. Perhaps an excursion to the Higgins Armory will inspire a young writer!
Imagine If Life Was One Big Celebration (August 19 - 23) During the last week at Summerfest we will spend our time celebrating our favorites and having special guests! We will be visited by a karate instructor and the frisbee dogs. Hopefully a video game or two will roll into Summerfest as well. We will also have our 2nd annual water play day and county fair. We will have one last hoorah before school begins!
Bike trips on the Rail Trail may be scheduled. Biking is based on age and ability. Some children will bike on school property instead of the Rail Trail.
Some of the scheduled activities are subject to change.
A separate Registration Packet for each child is needed for enrollment. This program is open to children entering grades 1–6, based on the upcoming 2013-2014 school year. Space is limited, please enroll early.
Important note for your planning purposes: There is a limit on the number of attendees each day, and the deadline to register and/or cancel is the Monday before the week your child plans to attend. For example, if your child plans to attend during the week of July 15th, all paperwork for new enrollees must be completed and turned in to our office no later than July 8th. The same dates apply for current enrollees who want to change or cancel their schedule.
The goal of Summerfest 2013 is to provide a safe, happy, and interesting summer for children entering grades 1 through 6, based on the upcoming 2013-2014 school year. The program will be staffed by certified teachers, educational support personnel, registered nurses, college and high school students - the majority of whom cared for the children during our Extended Day Program. Located at the Center Elementary School, Summerfest 2013 will provide recreational and musical activities, arts and crafts, computers, cookouts, movies, field trips and always a super surprise or two. Sprinklers will provide refreshing play on hot days. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Children must bring their own lunch.
There are a limited number of spots available on a first-come, first-served basis, especially for the Georges Island trip. Our current childcare families, then Chelmsford Public School children are given the first opportunity to sign up. Those from other towns will be welcomed on a space-available basis after that.
Fees are due one week in advance with the first week's payment required with registration. Thereafter, payment is due on the first day of each week that your child attends; you will receive an email invoice the preceding Thursday afternoon. You can pay online or checks payable to Town of Chelmsford/CommEd can be given directly to the Summerfest staff at the Center School or mailed to Chelmsford Community Education, 170 Dalton Road, Chelmsford, MA 01824. Also credit card payments can be made by contacting our office.
It is important for us to know what days/weeks you are registering your child to attend our program. We are not a "drop-in" program and we hire our staff based upon the number of enrollees each week. If your child's schedule changes, we require notification in writing to the Community Education Office (CommEd@Chelmsford.k12.ma.us) by Monday of the preceding week. (For example, if your child is signed up for the week of July 15th, any changes -- including swapping days -- must be received in writing in our office by Monday, July 8th.) After that time, you will be required to pay full tuition if your child withdraws or is absent for any reason, including illness.
All changes to schedules must be in writing to CommEd@Chelmsford.k12.ma.us. We will confirm the change in writing. Please save the confirmation, as we occasionally have difficulty with our email system.
We look forward to caring for your child during the summer. If you have any questions regarding the program, please call our office, 978-251-5151.
