SUMMERFEST IS LOCATED AT THE CENTER SCHOOL,
84 BILLERICA ROAD, CHELMSFORD 01824

The program begins on Friday, June 22, and continues through Friday, August 24.

Drop off as early as 7:00 am and pick up no later than 6:00 pm.

The fun continues in our childcare program over the summer! We're excited about our program in the Center Elementary School—it's air-conditioned, has a great playground, sports area, computer lab, and lots more!!!!

We are thrilled to introduce a new concept for our 2012 Summerfest program. Our program will be traveling the world in our own mini-Amazing Race. The children will receive passports as we learn about different crafts, games and activities from countries/continents around the world. The best part is they won't know they are learning since they will be having so much FUN!

Another goal this year is to get kids more active. As we travel from place to place we will give the children all types of opportunities to earn "fitness miles". These opportunities will include individual and class challenges. Again…the children will be having so much fun, they will not notice they are moving more! We will have bike parades, outdoor Olympics, relays, survivor themed games, etc. The children will be able to chart their progress as our car moves across the map in the lobby. As we reach new destinations we will have celebrations. It will be a fun and exciting summer!

Our in-house guests and field trips will enhance this theme whenever possible.

Welcome Back to Summerfest (June 22) Welcome! Today will be a great way to unwind from a busy school year and reconnect with old friends. The bike safety program, Stepping Out for Summer, will be here to remind us about biking safety. This will be the start of a great summer!

Passport to Summer Fun (June 25 - 29) This summer we will be participating in our own version of "Amazing Race." The children will be earning fitness and participation miles for our in-house activities. These miles will allow all of us to travel to many exciting destinations. Special events this week will include a visit from the Flying Frisbee Dogs and a bounce house.

Party in the USA (July 2 - 6) Be prepared to celebrate the birthday of our country. We will be waving our red, white and blue during this short week. Our kids will get to take a hike on the Bruce Freeman Trail and have an All American BBQ!

Polynesian Paradise (July 9 - 13) Aloha! We have earned our way to the tropics with our fitness miles. We will celebrate with special fruit snacks and a double splash waterslide. This week we will have a field trip to Roller Kingdom.

Campout (July 16 - 20) We are thrilled to be offering our first family camp out this week. We will be celebrating this favorite family pastime all week. The children will be creating pet rocks and enjoying icy cold slush. Families who attend this week will be invited to join us for a family camp out on Friday at the Center School. Campout is based on sufficient advance sign-up; deadline to sign up is Monday, June 25.

Greek Greatness (July 23 - 27) Let's go for the gold! The children will be competing in many individual and team challenges to honor the Summer 2012 Olympics. This is a week for all levels of athletes...previous Olympic training not required! Our field trip will be to Great Brook Farm.

Thunder Down Under (July 30 - August 3) G'day Mate! Our fitness miles will have taken us halfway around the world by now. We will be working on our tennis skills to get ready for our own Australian Open. Our field trip will be to the South Row School to practice our skills on the regulation courts.

African Adventures (August 6 - 10) As we head into the African Serengeti, we prepare for a WILD week. We will be learning about the animals and culture and learning some new games. Our special guest for the week will be the Rhythm Kids who offer a fun, hands-on drumming show. We will be biking on the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail*, having our own Chelmsford safari.

Artic Antics (August 13 - 17) During the heat of August it is time to CHILL OUT. This will be a fun week with some silly ice challenges. The kids will love bouncing in the bounce house and shooting hoops with our mini all star equipment inflatable.

European Extravaganza (August 20 - 24) As our journey comes to an end we will add the last stamps to our passports in Europe. We will have a trip on the Bike Path* and a visit from the popular "Games 2 U" van. This will be the time to say goodbye to our friends and celebrate a great summer!

* Biking is based on age and ability. Some children will bike on school property instead of the Bike Path.

Some of the scheduled activities are subject to change.

A separate Registration Packet for each child is needed for enrollment. This program is open to children entering grades 1–6, based on the upcoming 2012-2013 school year. Space is limited, please enroll early.

Important note for your planning purposes:  There is a delay of three business days after we have received all required paperwork before your child can attend our Childcare Programs.  This does not include the day we receive the paperwork.

Your child can fit into the program for the entire summer, just a week or two, or a special day. Age-appropriate physical, social, intellectual, and creative activities are planned which allow the children to develop emotionally and to make choices based on their personal interests.

The goal of Summerfest 2012 is to provide a safe, happy, and interesting summer for children entering 1st grade through entering grade 6 from all communities. The program will be staffed by certified teachers, educational support personnel, registered nurses, college and high school students - the majority of whom cared for the children during our Extended Day Program.

Located at the Center Elementary School, Summerfest 2012 will provide recreational and musical activities, arts and crafts, computers, cookouts, movies, field trips and always a super surprise or two. Sprinklers will provide refreshing play on hot days. Some of the scheduled activities are subject to change.

Drinks and snacks will be provided. Pancakes are served every Wednesday and Thursday morning before 3:30. Children must bring their own lunch.

Fees are due one week in advance with the first week's payment required with registration. Thereafter, payment is due on the first day of each week that your child attends. Checks payable to Town of Chelmsford/CommEd can be given directly to the Summerfest 2012 staff at the Center School or mailed to Chelmsford Community Education, 170 Dalton Road, Chelmsford, MA 01824. Credit card payments can be made by contacting our office.

It is important for us to know what days/weeks you are registering your child to attend our program. We are not a "drop-in" program and we hire our staff based upon the number of enrollees each week. If your child's schedule changes, we require notification in writing to the Community Education Office (CommEd@Chelmsford.k12.ma.us) by Monday of the preceding week. (For example, if your child is signed up for the week of July 16th, any changes must be received in writing in our office by Monday, July 9th.) After that time, you will be required to pay full tuition if your child withdraws or is absent for any reason.

All changes to schedules must be in writing to CommEd @Chelmsford.k12.ma.us. We will confirm the change in writing. Please save the confirmation, as we occasionally have difficulty with our email system.

We look forward to working with your child during the summer. If you have any questions regarding the program, please call our office, 978-251-5151.
